Frequently Asked Questions

1.  How soon can my child start at GPC Preschool?

We accept children who are 2 years and 6 months by December and fully potty trained.  Of course it is important that the child is emotionally ready for preschool.  Independence in meeting toiletting needs is one indicator of readiness, the ability to separate from the primary caregiver is another indicator, and a key indicator is having the ability to express his or her needs.

2.  Should I pack a snack and lunch for my child?

You will need to pack a lunch for your child if he or she will be with us past noon and joining the Lunch Bunch program.  The preschool does provide snack in the morning and in the afternoon, so there is no need to pack a snack.  We are a nut free school, so we do ask that you not send any food containing nuts or nut products.

3.  Am I allowed to come into the classroom during the school day?

Parents are welcome in the classroom anytime.  We encourage parents to be involved in the school day, though it is not required.  We do ask that visits be prearranged with the teachers and also that sensitivity be used at the beginning of the school year.  We have many children adjusting to being separated from parents and so when a parent is present, it can delay the adjustment.  Please talk to us about your needs.

4.  Does the school have holidays?

Yes, our preschool calendar is generally based on the Glendale Unified School District's school calendar.  We are closed on many of the same days that the Glendale schools are closed.

5.  May my child celebrate his or her birthday at preschool?

Yes, but we do set limits as to the extend of the celebration.  We want to recognize every child and especially at their birth milestone.  The celebration for the day takes place during the regular snack time and we invite parents to send in the snack for that day.  Something special, like store bought cupcakes or cookies, milk or juice boxes and special birthday napkins goes a long way in recognizing a child on their birthday.
