About Us

Pastor Bio

Rev. Chris Harrison

On August 1, 2010 Glendale Presbyterian Church will welcome our new pastor, Chris Harrison. After several years of searching our Pastor Nominating Committee selected Chris. Here is a little more information about Chris and his family.

Family Background

Chris Harrison was born in Houston, Texas on August 10, 1971. As a young man he played football and loved music and drama. After college, he came out to California to chase his acting dream. While in California he discovered a neighbor that challenged his views on Jesus. Through the ministry of Hollywood Presbyterian Church, Chris came to faith in Jesus Christ.

This picture was taken on Sunday, May 16th. The day that our congregation overwhelmingly voted to call Chris Harrison as our Pastor. The picture on the left includes the Harrison family, Chris, Rebecca, Caeden and Dylan. Rebecca's dad is on the right side of the picture.

Educational Background

Chris studied Musical Theater at the University of Miami, Florida. Years later in preparation for Ordained Pastoral Ministry, he received his Masters of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary, Southwest, while under the care of the Presbytery of The Grand Canyon.

Ministry Background

First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood hired Chris as their Junior High Director in 1998. Following that ministry he spent five years as Director of Youth and Contemporary Worship with Desert Hills Presbyterian Church in Carefree, Arizona. After that, Copper Hills Community Church in Glendale, Arizona, called him to be Pastor of Worship where he served for one year. Chris has served Church of the Master Presbyterian Church in Mesa, Arizona since 2007 as Youth Director and Director of Contemporary Worship.

Chris brings fifteen years of hands on experience in the PCUSA. While the majority of his time in ministry has been spent serving young people and leading worship, he has acquired a diverse pastoral skill set. He has ministered to families in many stages of life; celebrating beginnings, presiding over funerals and counseling through life's many challenges and sorrows.

Family

Chris believes that his leadership begins as he lives out his faith with his family. He is married to Rebecca. They have two children, daughter Dylan and son Caeden. They have recently been to Ethiopia to pick up their new adopted son, Desmond. The rest of his family is made up of two dogs and a goldfish!

Chris will begin his ministry with GPC on Sunday, August 1. We look forward to the next years of growing together and being led by God under the leadership of Pastor Chris.

About Us

Extending ourselves to each other and those around us.

Located in downtown Glendale, GPC (Glendale Presbyterian Church) seeks to extend itself to the surrounding community.  While celebrating 125 years of history, we also celebrate change, continuing to grow and develop as we relate to God, to each other and to the larger community.  Life at Glendale Presbyterian Church includes a Sunday morning worship service (10:30 AM), Sunday School for all ages, and numerous activities throughout the week.

Sunday Worship services at GPC seek to reach to diverse persons, including different ages, ethnicities, styles and interests.  Worship includes contemporary and traditional elements, and is often enriched by the gifts of church participants who are artistic, as well as by the gifts of the many who have Fuller Seminary educations.

Sunday School sessions include classes for all different ages of children, Bible Studies and activities for junior and senior high schoolers, and multiple offerings for adults, geared towards different topics and interests.

Week day activities include Bible studies, youth activities, music events, prayer groups, world mission support groups, local service ministries, women’s ministries, men’s ministries, a 12-step program (Celebrate Recovery) and much more.

The church, in both its worship service and in all its life and activities is committed to the Scripture found in the Old and New Testaments.  The church is also committed to developing and maintaining healthy relationships, with God, amongst ourselves and with our community.  Towards this end, GPC participants have received training and experiences in “facilitated dialogue” and “Appreciative Inquiry,” both communication processes intended to promote positive relational skills.

The GPC community seeks to extend a light of God’s love and truth in Glendale, and to offer a welcoming presence to all.

The Deacons Ministry at Glendale Presbyterian Church is one of compassion, outreach, and service to the body of Christ and the community. We are committed to use our unique giftedness, knowledge, skills, and resources to fulfill the needs of the body and community. The ministry operates under the direction of the congregational care pastor.

One area where all the deacons come together irrespective of their sub-ministry focus groups is the Shut-In Communion Service. Communion is served to shut-ins the first Sunday of each month by the deacons. Teams consisting of two deacons each will visit shut-ins who have requested communion to be served. Hal Hanable, Congregational Care Assistant, coordinates the program and determines the number of deacons needed for each communion Sunday.  If you wish to receive home communion, call the Congregational Care Department at 818.242.8873 ext. 222.
